Auto-Engineer is opt-in and off by default. When an agent regresses against its own baseline (change-failure climbing or judge quality dropping), Yardstick drafts an improved instruction file and opens a pull request with the before & after numbers. You review and merge; it never merges for you, and it opens at most one fix per agent every two weeks. Two weeks later it comments back on the PR whether the regression actually closed.
